lifting up
your head
the moon, in full
lowering her body
over shimmering ocean
white cow, lilting by
bell clanking, preternaturally
stirring up, on your elbows
your partner laughs
“no, you are not dreaming”
the beach is white in the moon light
the cow’s horns nod, steadfastly
as she crosses your gaze
– she seems intent on getting past
this unexpected
apparition, on her trail
her eyes averted, not looking at you
as if to say
I am not comfortable
with this queen sized futon and pillows
and duvet, with human people bundled
in the moonlight
on the sand
looking at me
situation
this seems reasonable
and, you just feel
love
for this surreal and beautiful life
on your home planet
